Jule Styne was born as Julius Stein on December 31, 1905 in London, England. He moved to Chicago at the age of eighter and started taking diffused lessons because a basketball never was an use up to him. In 1939 Jule moved to Republic and became their resident song writer because Twentieth Century Fox cut drastically back on their musicals. By 1943 he had teamed up with Sammy Cahn (a historied American musician) and contracted a seven-picture deal with Columbia Pictures, exclusively unfortunately only finished three.
Styne and Cahn had their first Broadway smash hit with High Button Shoes in 1947, starring Nanette Fabray and Phil Silvers. The show ran for 727 performances and won the Donaldson award. (The Donaldson awards were established in 1944 to honor the creator of Billboard, W.H Donaldson).
